Great service, Mike.
Reader arrived yesterday afternoon - within 36 hours of placing order.

Having attached black and white adaptor leads, connectors are very tight
fit almost difficult to get a fit, I got a "No Codes" read out. Which is
great.

To check that reader was actually reading DFCs, I disconnected the
engine coolant temperature sensor and re-read the codes - got 0522
coding which is spot on. Great, this means there are no recorded faults
and the reader is working correctly.

Having spent a fair amount of time trying to get LEDs to work with
connectors, looking at enabling a MIL from either the ECU or from a
connector under the dash and generally swotting up on how to read codes,
the U280 does all I need.

Many thanks,

Jon

Subject: Rover 25 EOBD Code reader

Sir,

I am looking to buy an EOBD reader, mainly for my Rover 25 (1.4 Engine, 2002 - 02 plate)

Am I correct in my belief that any EOBDII reader will work on any EOBDII equipped car or are there some anomalies?.  Sorry if this is a silly question but I have only ever delt with Vauxhall engines before where it was possible to 'flash' the codes out using the MIL.

Which of your product range would you recommend for the DIY user?

Thanks
Paul

Code reader arrived today (tuesday)  All is well & I am very pleased with it ,many thanks Barry

Hi, Mike!

Thank you very much for you help and patience through this process.  I hope that my experience may help you in advising others who are having similar experiences.

Jim

Hi Mike,

Just wanted to thank you for your help and the ELM327 serial device.  The web is full of conflicting advice including those who tell you that ELM327 devices specifically won’t support pre 2004 Vauxhall diesels.  I have strongly recommended you on the Vauxhall owners forum.

 http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/showthread.php?t=130342 .

 Thanks again.

Andrew

Hi,

The ELM327 is not a true USB device and uses a softwrae driver to create a COM Port on the PC.

Most software has been written for COM Ports.

Vehicle ECUs are not extremely fast and do not need to be, so Serial ports are fast enough.

The USB one can be unstable sometimes.

If you have a Serial port then I would recommend the serial port version.  Using a USB adapter to create a serial port is thesame as buying a USB version as already explained.

However I do sell PCMCIA serial cards.  These create a true serial port as the are like fitting an expansion card to the laptop, see adaptor cables section.

Regards

Mike

Thanks for the extensive explanation Mike.  1 week of trying to investigate starts to come clear!  So it looks like I need an ELM327 from you.  I will place an order through your website.  Before I do that is there any advantage to whether I choose serial or USB, essentially in terms of support from the relevant software i.e. do some packages only support a com interface, or vice versa?

Andrew
